I fish P.C. from may to june every year (sorry, april is a little early in the season) but fishing still good at that time. I have my own boat so don´t know about charters, but beware I have seen junkboats in the water that I understand are in the business. If you charter in advance ask for pictures and details of the operation. I also know there a few independent operators besides the hotels´, so you should have a pick. By the way, I´m running a tournament out of Boca Chica (2 hour car ride) on april 5 and 6, if you´re there already you´re more than welcome to attend. We´ll be fishing for marlin, dolphin, wahoo and tuna.
best of luck on your trip

Am going to Punta Cana/Bavaro in May '06. Wondering what flyfishing opportunities there are? What kind of tackle to use? What flies? Are there any places to rent flyrods/reels

Punta cana is located in the east coast of the Dominican Republic .With cristal water ,beautifull coral reef and white sand make this place a paradise and an atractive turistic destination in the caribbean. In Dominican Republic we practice several water sports for exenple the deep sea fishing, the nautic club organize every years the international blue and white marlin tournament.Punta cana is one of the most common atraction in the atlantic water because we need not much distance from the coast to be in deep water,in punta cana we dont have comercial fishing, just sports fishing and a few company offer this service. Its why isnot a wasting time fishing in punta cana.
The most common species are barracuda,mahi mahi,bonito,atlantic blue marlin,atlantic sailfish,yelow fin tuna,white marlin,king fish,albacore and others.
We have diferent season for those species for exemple:Blue marlin start at the end of may to october, barracuda ,wahoo all year around, mahi mahi season start at the end of november to the begining of may etc.

hi guys,
we really noticed your presence on the forum and appreciate any good info about fishing around all good destinations, but please don't spam the topics of this top forum with 10 times the same talk within hours.
the Dominican east coast out of Punta Cana is running white marlin season right now, topping during May /June, at all the whites stay til min. mid July. blue marlins in the lower weight class are caught all year long, but season for the atlantic blue in our local waters does not start before mid/end June, topping during July/August, at all they stay til mid October.
for both spezies, white and blue Marlin, the timing according to the present moon phase is vital, misstiming you charter for only 2 days will result in the difference from a live time trip to a zero hit charter even if you take the best crew using top equipment.
i wish you all the best for your business, we notice and read your posts, but please post them only once.
tight lines
Mike
