I've used the Duel 80's and 130's when fishing in Kona with Sea Genie II. They are really cool, easy to use and Capt. Gene swears by em'. No buttons to push just crank bacwards for low speed.

We had a bad experience with 6 80 wides the drags were VERY inconsistant and two of them had bad seals on them leaked a staining brown liquid on the covering boards. We sent them back to the distributer to be "fixed" they came back to us and were not corrected still leaking on covering boards and drags would not remain consistant on two of them. Sent all 7 of them back to the mfg and bought Shimano's.

these are the sweetest reels i have ever fished with. the drags are by far the smoothest and the no button two speed is awesome. just wissh i could afford'em

The drags are great but from what i understand the two speed system is not igfa legal because its a "ratcheting handle"

I have 2 duel 30's and the drags are not consistant. Both reels seem to surge and not be smooth. They are too new to be worn out. Any info?

Duel is an outstanding offshore fishing reel. The automatic gear change method is nothing less than offshore perfection.
Personally the fact that they may not be IGFA legal is a mute point. I am not seeking any world records, particularly when the holding of that record requires that I kill a billfish.
I have used the 2.5, 6/0, 9/0, and 12/0, all are excellent. My personal favorite is the 9/0. Duel comes with addtional springs to increase the max drag.
When we get into the Duel price range, the only reel that is close to the Duel in price is the accurate. Given a choice between Duel or Accurate, I much rather the Duel any day of the week. Not only will it outperform the accurate, but it is substantially less expensive. I have used both of these and in my opinion Duel is a vastly superior reel.

Duels are IGFA legal. There are a lot of World Records attributed to these reels. 2 speed drag is a real bonus on big blues and blacks, especially for ladies and children. Drags need a lot of care and attention to keep smooth and will get sticky if not used much. Good idea is to rotate them around the spread. Short corner is often the quietest position so move rod and reel to long corner or short rigger or where the action is happening. I was a Tiagra fan then I discovered the Penn VSW but for ease of use on big marlin the Duel, if well looked after, has them both beat. The only thing is the high gear is higher than either of the others and therefore it is more difficult to get the handle around when under pressure, but then of course it is so easy to just wind backwards. Your arm will ache for a while as you are using some different muscles but once used it is hard to go back.
