This is just a fish story. My boat was 11 feet 8 inches long, the blue marlin close enough to touch, and the gills beyond the bow, the tail beyond the transom. In the Galapagos islands, 200 yards from the cliff, in 20 fathom water.

As far as I know the largest marlin caught on rod and reel was an 1805# Pacific Blue caught on 6-10-1971 by Mike Wachtier, Pat Morello, Charles Lewis and boat mate Gail Choy. Her Dad was the Captain and it was caught off of Oahu I believe. It did not qualify as an IGFA record for obvious reasons (4 anglers). Japanese longliners report blues over 2000 pounds. This is the biggest on rod and reel.

As far as age probably VERY OLD........ and a female. WGB

For anyone interested in looking at the picture of the 1805# grander go to: hawaiifishingnews.com. Go to the left side of the page and click on Granders and this fish is listed at the bottom of the page. This local Hawaii magazine is an excellent resource for anyone who plans to fish the area. WGB
