I badly need some help Im new to big game fishing, i made a trip to Sao Tome this year and hooked and lost a big marlin est 300kg due to poor tackle setup (stand up, small boat, trolling rod, penn 117, and only shoulder harness which was way too small. Im 6ft 280lbs and fairly strong in my upper body. What i think i need is 80>130lb 2 speed STD reel (not wide body) and a 6ft plus std up rod , roller guides 80>130lb class.I quite like the look of the Alutecna equipment but am having problems finding specific information on there products Im confused with all the options out there. Could anyone help by providing specific models of rods and reels to look at. All fishing will be standup. Also suggestions on fighting belt- i quite like the look of the black magic system.
thanks
Dear Dave:
I live in Sao Tome and have been Big Game fishing in its waters.....Blue Marlin is not so abundant like in other spots around the world, but sails are a frequent catch. In my opinion, you can fish confortable in Sao Tome waters with 80 lb tackle.........I usually troll with a 50 lb 2 speed AVET PRO EXW
and a Penn Senator 50/80 Lb (9/0). Soon I will mount a Penn Senator 116L (12/0) on an 80 Lb rod to pursue the big boys (big Blues). Anyway, next time you come to Sao Tome let me know so I can put you in contact with the island Big Game pros.
Good Luck for the next time.......!
Noel.

hello, Noel.
My name is Emiliano Micalizzi and I live in Rome, Italy.
I have found your name on "Marlinmag" and I would like to ask you a favour, if possible: I see that you live in Sao Tomé. I am a young collector of world coins, and I need to buy 30 pieces of "2000 dobras" coins.
I am willing to pay in anticipation, sending you 15 euros (is that enough for covering also the registered mail expenses? If not, please let me know) to your address.
If you think you can help me, please contact me at quetzalkoala@inwind.it and give me your postal address, so that I can send you 15 euros, a padded enveope with my address on it, and a set of pockets where you can put the coins before you send me.
As I wrote, I am ready to pay in anticipation, so you will not risk to be cheated: you would send me the coins only when you receive the money for them.
I really hope you can help me: it's impossible to find those coins in Rome, and I badly need them for my collection and for making exchanges with other collectors.
I wait for your reply.
Thank you in advance for your attention.
Emiliano

I am in the U.S. Air Force and will be stationed in Aviano Italy starting in June 07. (1 hour west of Venice) I am also a coin collector, I have some good stuff. I have coins dug up from the Colluseum in your hometown dated B.C. Willing to share in exchange for Marlin Fishing trip out of Rome. I am just throwing this out there to learn more about the reigon I will be fishing. Hope to make some friends online too and fish together when I arrive. I may have the coins you are looking for. Reaching out..............
I have got the gear to fish. I have pulled Halibut out of Alaska, Yellow fin from Maui, Countless Salmon from the American River here in Sacremento California, Dungenous Crab, Rock/Ling Cod and Red Snapper from the Pacific just outside the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. The one thing that has escaped me untill now has been the beautiful Blue Marlin.. Thats what I want. I would be more than happy with a Sail Fish though. I need to hook up with the native's of Italy to get it done. I will be studying the language the next six months. If anyone is out there. Throw me some of your language so I can practice! Eagerly Anticipating..

G'day Dave,
All depends on what your after and how much cabbage you've got.

Penn Senator 9/0 or Daiwa Sealine 900H reel.
Penn 2265 ARA 5'6" all roller rod.
Suffix 80lb dacron.
Black Magic stand up harness and gimbal plate.
Expensive option is:
Shimano Tiagra 80STW reel.
Braid BG56 rod.
Tortue Derby 80lb braid.
Dennis Braid stand-up harness and gimbal plate (they're choice!).
Hope this helps mate.

Dave,
The Shimano Tiagra 50WLRS spooled with over 1000yds. of 130LB. Power Pro or Master braid with a a 80 yd. mono topshot and a good 80-130Lb class rod with the Black Magic harness will allow you to chase almost any Marlin out there standing up.
You can can even spool up with 1200yds. of 80LB. braid and the mono topshot if you don't want to go with the 130LB braid.
