Hello
After a year of having to work for a living again I will be heading to Quepos in Costa Rica for 3 or 4 weeks of fishing and sleeping with Ron Rico Blanco. (Ron Rico is rum, no I am not gay) Anyway if anyone out there is interested in joining in feel free to stop by and free load. My wife and friends are not going this year, they are not big fans of offshore fishing so I will be on my own. Drop me an email if interested. My time line is mid Febuary to mid March.

What a nice invite. (Although "gay" billfisherman might find it off color....)(see igfa = "Inspirational Gay Fishing Associates" newsletter). Bear with me here; just could not pass on that one............

I know they have a fairly good sail bite off of Quepos. Have you caught any marlin there? If so what type and how good is the bite in those months? I and a friend who posts on this site both have interests in the billfish bite there. WGB

Must say I envy you. "Going for a few weeks" I only get to go for a week every year. Oh well, on to Playa Zancudo, in late Jan-early Feb.. At least this year I will be there during the Blues Music Tournament & may get to hear & catch some Blues!

Hello offshore folk. I am trying to corespond to all who responnd to me about the big blue Pacific. I am headed to Cosat Rica this winter and will be basically fishing, and well having fun by the pool. The last few weeks down there was all Dorado and tuna. A few sails, the odd wahoo. Marlin are not that frequent out of Qupeos, but with the right captain you can find them way, way off shore. I talked to a couple of guys who went out for a 48 hour charter 60 miles off shore for big tuna and swordfish, but came up empty. I mainly just get sails and tuna this time of year. If you want marlin I would head to Panama for sure. The rush is on for Costa Rica given the many natural disasters around the world now. It is a good stable country both in climate and politically. Book now or lose out. If you want specifics email me directly please.
Willy.

I am heading down to Costa Rica Jan 21-28. I am trying to decide between Los Suenos and Guanamar. Would welcome any suggestions you might have. I fished Flamingo in July. It was a little slow for billfish. I did catch a nice rooster.

If you are going down in late January
why not try Quepos. The fishing is excellent and the prices are much cheaper.I will be there from Jan 25 to March 10 and fish a lot from there.

The Captain: What has that to do with Costa Rica? Absolute None. You just wanted to put your two cents in about Ecuador. Yes, there's a problem in Ecuador - there's nothing new about it! I fished there 35 years ago out of Salinas and yes the locals caught and killed every billfish and sold in at the dock for a nickle a kilo.
Nothings gonna change until the supermarket chains and the restaurants stop selling billfish.
