Hello guys,
I just left a deposit and bought airline tickets to go to Guatemala on Feb. 4 and fish three days. Have any of you guys been down there? Any words of advice for me?
Thanks,
Wade

Fishing is usually excellent in Feb: we have room space at Sailfish Bay Lodge. Boats are very tight in Feb so check with us for a boat.

Don't bring home anything you shouldn't.

Anything I shouldn't? That can be taken so many ways. I will assume that we are talking about illegal antiquities?

I'll actually be down there the same time. If you see me walking the dock, carrying a camera case with Marlin stickers on it, say hi. I'm going to be writing a story on the area, as well as the great accomplishments of Ron Hamlin, who released his 20,000th billfish in December. It's a great time to go. The fish are there.

I'll keep an eye out for you Charlie. We'll be the two extremley tall guys looking sunburned. We should have been basketball players but fishing was too much fun.

Hi Wade:

I am another Fishing Operator in Guatemala, my recommedantion to bring is:
- Sunglasses
- Tons of Sunblock
- Light Cloth
- Hat
- Camera
- Dramamine or Earing Patch, just in
case

And the principal:
READY FOR HAVE FUN, AND GOOD FISHING!!!.

Sailfish Bay Lodge, is near my beach house and is a nice place, infront of the beach, thing that will be different for you maybe, cause we have black sand, cause is volcanic.

In the roadway to the coast youŽll see three or four volcanoes and two of them "smoking", nice view and experiencie also.

And if the day is clear when you be fishing and maybe less of 20 miles, youŽll count 9 Volcanoes, since San Salvador until us, Guatemala.

Cheers

The ear patches were replaced years ago with Scopace, a tablet taken a couple of hours before travel or fishing. Lasts all day. No side effects like the patch.

Remember to drink plenty of water and drink the beer after fishing.

Save $3 for Immigration guy who sells you a departure form.

Luckily, I've never been probe to motion sickness. My buddy on the other hand sometimes is.

That's good info on the $3. Thanks.

I'll be useless at work all week thinking about going down there.

I'm back and it was awesome.

The fish are currently in close to shore. We had one day where we were actually putting teasers out as we left the harbor.

Total tally: 10 for 19 conventional on the first day and then switched to fly. Went 19 for 46 on the fly over the next 2 1/2 days. That average is pretty low but it was also the first time that either of us had fly fished for billfish.

I'll give Sailfish Bay Lodge a thumbs up. The accomodations are great, food is great, staff was great, fishing was astounding.

If you go, the beach is good, but be alert for an undertow. Stay shallow is you're a weak swimmer.
