Went to a single hook stiff cable rig this year, and had a horrible release to hook-up ratio. One tournament went 1 for 8, with the 8 hookups being fish hooked, and 2-400 yards of line pulled off the reel, then unbuttoned. Any help? Thanks for the responses.

I don't use wire for anything but sharks. I use 300# mono which is more flexible and we don't lose but a few fish in this manner. A 10/0 Mustad back to a 7/0 Mustad.

Google up Peter Pakula's site and follow the instructions for his double hook shackle rig. You won't be sorry. Been through same experience as you on the single hook stiff rigs. I'm not sold on them.

G'day Mate,
Wouldn't use stiff rigs on Mr. Stickface, we use 300 - 650lb mono leader, usually Momoi or Jinkai, and then just swage a mustad hook on so it just free swings on the end. Better hook-up rate all round.
