Beginner saltwater fishing

Hello, I am new to saltwater fishing and I would like to know what type of rod and reel combo to use? I will be fishing onshore(beach) and offshore from time to time. I have freshwater fished but not saltwater. Thank you

The best thing to do is go and watch the locals fish in each location you plan to fish. Carry a pen and pad and ask a lot of questions. Tell them you don't know a thing about fishing. They will be more than happy to tell you more than you would ever want to hear.

Find a few fellows older than salt and look at their reels, poles, terminal leaders, hook sizes, etc. Often less is more when it comes to catching. It varies from location to location in the states and in the world. What might be used at a pier in Pensacola, versus a jetty in East Florida, versus onshore and offshore of the NE or NW varies tremendously.

Go and watch who catches the most fish consistently. Then go purchase. Have fun. WGB
