My husband and I would like to take a fishing vacation for our first anniversary, but are having trouble finding destinations/packages that offer "romantic" accommodations with at least a few days (3-4) of fishing. We spent our honeymoon in the Yucatan and fished out of Puerta Aventuras and loved it! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

if you want to travel through May/June you should come to the dominican east coast, Punta Cana. we'll be in the middle of white marlin season then, fishing only 2-8nmls offshore, no need for long runs out, so you can fish the mornings and enjoy the romantic part on beautiful beaches in the afternoons. accomodations are here available for every need. please check www.mikes************************.info or contact me directly on Mike@Mikes************************.info

anyways enjoy your aniversary

Have you considered Mozambique islands,Zambezi in Zambia and combining fishing with either a safari or a tropical island.

Quepos/Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica would be an excellent choice, with the Mariposa as the hotel.
Check out http://www.tropicalfishing.com/costarica.html for more info.

Good move Gene! Send them there in the height of the rainy season.

A much better choice is Cabo San Lucas. More to do, more to see, lots of fish to catch and it's less expensive than Costa Rica.

That time of the year it usually only rains for a couple of hours late in ther afternoon into the evening

As the original post was July of 2006, this might be a moot point.

Some more global suggestions based on places I billfish are:

(1) Kona (of course) being both affordable, convenient and productive with the likes of spearfish, blues and stripies. You won't need to learn Spanish!

(2) Cabo absolutely is always a good idea (stripies galore) with just about any boat type, size and cost available (and they are having a fine year). I have my favorite hotel tucked away among massive coconut trees.

(3) Tropic Star is another fine location. All the usual suspects (sails, blacks, blues and stripies) come and go offshore, the boats are top notch, it's a lovely setting and a superb lodge. You can watch Jesus Lizards run on the waters of the pond at the wier and buzzards on the sands just to the north of the lodge in the late afternoon.

(4) Let's not forget the Fort Lauderdale area state side (from Stuart to Miami actually) if one is interested in swords or sails. They just finished a very interesting run of juvenile sails about 1 - 3 feet long. The lights from offshore are beautiful as you drift for swords in the evening. It is also one of the few places to offer night fishing. A daytime trek to Key West to the Zero Mile Marker is relaxing and beautiful.

Enough as there are hundreds more all over the globe. It is always nice to try a new place for six days offshore, meals with new friends, and seeing the world as being smaller and friendlier than often perceived in the papers. My personal stomping ground is LaGuaira, Venezuela. Tight lines and screaming reels. Doc

Hey Gina

I have heard that Cam Sigler has found a Fijian Resort which is top class and the flyfishing on tap. Not sure of details you may have to ask around. Happy anniversary

Ever thought of Salmon and halibut? I put together custom packages and can take care of transportation , accomodations, and your fish. Ill take you to the best fishing based on the time of year you like. Up here you will want to come no earlier than June and no later than september. Mu partner and I each have 26' Pursuits, and believe me, we catch plenty of fish. Chinook salmon averaging 20 lbs., halibut up to 100 lbs. There are plenty of other species of fish as well. I can send you more info if youre interested. Take care!

You can't beat Kona for great fishing and beautiful sunsets at that time of year.
