Lets be honest, fishermen spend a fortune in pursuit of billfish and often own a lot of expensive gear.
I wondered who would buy and carry a satellite tag in their kit if they were available to buy at a reasonable price and easy to deploy?
As a proportion of the cost of a five-day billfishing trip, I guess a tag would add under 2%. Say $200. Maybe less - especially if it could be subsidised somehow (grants, sponsorship etc).
If you didn’t catch, you’d still have it for next time.
What if, when the tag popped, you got copied in on the data from your fish?
I’d definitely be interested!
What about you?
The data would help fishermen and provide valuable data to assist conservation of the species.
Obviously, this is different from the Tag a Giant scheme as it allows anglers to deploy tags worldwide without the presence of scientists.
Opinions?
