There are alot of different compinies and indaviduals that make long rods...
I like my Loomis rods the best. I also know a glasser localy that makes nice casting surf rods. It sort of depends on what ya want it to do. The best casting rod I have is a Redington RFX 8.6. I like the guide spacing and it cast real well. Has a good action and is an overall great rod. It was alot less then any of my Lommis rods also. I think I got it out the door around $100....

St Croix makes a good rods also, I dont know alot about them, I dont use them personally... I have a friend that does though and he like his.

Redington makes good rods, little bit more then St. Croix rods...

Loomis makes good rods also, little bit more then Redington rods...
I know that was all spaced out and didnt make a bit of sense... But hope it helps in some kind of way.....
