This comment is in regards to Doug Olander's article on (An open letter to fishing line manufacturers).
I caught a 13lb 12oz spotted sea trout on Yozuri Hybrid 15lb test line. I did every thing in my power to check this fish in properly for an IGFA world record. The current record held by 2 people was 12lb 9oz. I was thrown out of the record books after my line tested 19.86lbs. I then e-mailed Yozuri of my dicust with the test results and they responded by just saying we do not make our line to IGFA standards. I was listede in your magazine under the IGFA report and am an avid fisherman. To loose a chance at the record books was devistating to me. I told everyone of this catch and the mount is hanging in my office.
To let Yozuri know of my dissapointment with them I want you to post my article I would like to submit to you and I boast to never in my lifetime to ever(no matter how good the product) buy another Yozuri product of any kind. And I am not just an average fisherman. I own at least 30 fishing rods and a multitude of freshwater and saltwater takle. And you can bet that everyone I come in contact with will be told of my discust with them.
Thank you,
The record that got away after it was landed.

Dear Sir,

I could not help myself, as I'm sure others reading this are laughing as well. Bear in mind, they are laughing AT you...not WITH you. Here are a couple of pointers to help you along your angling journey.

1) Try to learn from this experience.

2) Do your research. Were you using an IGFA rated line? No. You should be aware of this fact BEFORE you wet a line. Everyone else chasing a record or fishing IGFA rules is.

3) 15# is not even an IGFA line class.

4) It's not a tackle company's fault that their product works as advertised. It's YOUR fault for not knowing the rules re: IGFA records and playing by them accordingly.

Bottom line, get informed. Join the IGFA and set yourself apart. Many people claim to be fisherman...few are true anglers.

Best Regards,

Mike

First off congratulations on such a nice fish. However, it is clear that you are not aware that almost all fishing line will test at a greater breaking strength than stated unless you are using IGFA rated line. Good luck in the future.
