Have a Simano calcutta ct700 reel. it holds 300yds of 20 lbs mono would like to use braid but it would cost £200 to fill it with 40# braid.
any suggestions

300 Yards of 40lb spectra costs about $20, fill the spool with 50lb dacron and with a loop to loop conection ad the braid as a topshot

Maybe in the USA it would cost $20 but I know it's a lot more expensive in the UK. I always buy mine of ebay. The best I have found is FINS PRT Braid. To my knowledge its the only IGFA braid on the market. I just brought 500 yrds for 40US from a seller called shimreels.

600 yds. of Cortland Masterbraid spectron is about $60 USD and its much thinner than Dacron. 50LB. Masterbraid is the same diameter as 12LB. mono. So you will be able to get almost the entire 600yds. onto your reel.
