Hi,

I am trying to find a good fishing pole for Deep sea fishing and am not sure what to get. I am a novice, my older son is looking for a good fishing pole for Deep Sea Fishing and Jigging. Could someone advise me on this please.

Thank you,
Rachel

This depends so much on the type and size fish you are looking to tangle with. As a novice, you should look at very versitile outfit that you can start out with. Most fisherpeople have dozens of rods and reels. I would start with a good medium weight spinning outfit. An Ugly stick spinning rod with a daiwa BG60 is a good solid start. Load it with twenty to 25 pound clear monofiliment line. If you are more into conventional tackle, a Penn or Diawa 4/0 with a conventional Ugly stick rated for 50 pounds is another versitile outfit. Load this with 50 pound clear monofiliment. With either of these choices, you may not have the finest outfit on the boat, but people won't point and laugh. It's never good when they point and laugh.

Any tackle store will have these combinations available. With the combo price you will looking at about $100 for the spinner and close to $200 for the conventional. Check out Bass Pro Shops saltwater department online.

Tight lines,
