The warm winter is making life great for fly fisherman in the backcountry. On Monday and Tuesday I guided Jacob Riley from Minnesota. The wind was blowing pretty good and Jacob did a great job casting. On Monday he caught 7 snook and had about 20 good strikes. Tuesday was good as well, he landed 5 snook and had about 14 strikes. Most of the snook are 15-22 inches and are sitting in about a foot of water.

I have fished the "river' many times in the past. I was wondering what patterns you used to find success with your client.

on snook, the ones i prefer immitate what there eating now. baby menhaden is the food of choice right now so i've been using anything that looks similar to a small menhaden. blue on top and white on the bottom is a color pattern that has been working great. black and white too. use smaller flies, #2 hooks no bigger, there a little sluggish in the winter if the temps drop so don't be afraid to throw it in there, they want any easy meal right now.
