just wondering if anyone has any preferences for making connections from braid to flourocarbon. I was looking into wind on leaders but have never used them before, which makes me a little apprehensive. this was my first thread hope i didn't mess it up.

without going the wind on route, my favorite connection is a bimini twist with the braid and a yucatan knot into the double line. This is a very strong low profile connection. Wind on leaders are very strong and offer the smoothest connection available. I use the yucatan connection when using lighter leaders. Wind on's when going heavy

I just saw the post, hence the late reply. I use an Albright knot with fluoro and braid up to 30#. Very low profile for a wind on and I haven't had a knot slip yet.

I tie a bimini inn the braid, and reverse ablright the flouro to it.

Will the braid to fluorocarbon connection be used for trolling? if it is then the wind-on will be your best bet.

A Bimini twist double line on the braid, and a catspaw loop to loop conection to the wind-on leader.

when you look at terrminal conections, the wind on conection is the most versital, if you want to put a swivel on you just thread it on like a hook on a double drop leader. the wind on allows you to reel the leader up on the reel. you can use a 25, leader and fight the fish all the way to the gaft, you reduce the risk of loosing a fsh due to handlining. i know how overwelming the wind-on conection looks, but there is some steps i have came up with to make it easier.

1. by a pack of tooth proof leader and cut a 2 ft section and fold it in half, you can actually store extra windons on this " needle"

2. get you a hook and latch splicing needle. ou can find them online for 5 or 6 bucks,
3. use power pro hollow core. it is specially made for the windon conection and will hold without and glue other conections
4. go to your auto store and get a tupe of flexiable super glue. used to hold body parts on .
5 go to the computer store and get some low temp heat shrink, clear, it will melt in a glass of hot water, so you dont damage your line.
. make the wind on loop with the instructions, thread the wire "needle" up the inside of the power pro, pull it out leaving the chinese sock open and push your fluro up inside . glue doth ends with the flexable superglue and finish the leader with the lowtemp heatshrink and a blow dryer or hot water. at the end of the powerpro to keep it from unraveling.

you can set down and be a pro in a couple of hours.. if you need help pm me and i can walk you through it

If you have to use A knot, use a slim beauty. 100% strength, low profile, ideal for heavy mono to braid, and zipping through guides and rollers without catching. In the Us. it is mostly used for fly-inshore, but Aussies have been using this for heavy bluewater trolling for a long time

I showed you a link with a guy using it for light tackle, just because it is a good diagram.

You're right. That is a good diagram. I am looking forward to trying this one out.

Real late response here. After trying most of the answers in this thread...go with the bimini twist and a windon. It is the easiest and it is less of a hassle to handle on a boat rocking around.
