I'm looking for a new boat in th 28-30 ft. range and the Southport and Scout have caught my eye. The 29 Regulator looks good too. Anybody have any experience with these?

The 28' Southport is probably the nicest 28' that you could find, period. The boat will stay on plane at 15 knots, smooth ride in 4-5 ft seas, fuel-efficient, and well thought out. The 29' Regulator is slow, the 26' is the fastest. And Scouts have always impressed me as overpriced with not too nice fit and finish. The 28' Southport was designed by looking at all the good points of the current fishing boats out there and then incorporating those into a newly designed hull.

You might check out the Noth Coast 26' if you are in the market for a no frills fishing boat of great quality also if you have time and $ Judge Yachts are really nice. South ports are sweet!

I looked at the Southport at the Charleston Boat Show and was impressed. The fit and finish looked great. The only negative that I saw was the cockpit was a little small. It looked like they gave more room in the helm and cabin versus cockpit. In my opinion, if you are looking for an offshore fishing boat with more cockpit space, you may want to look at some other options. Scout Boats are very nice and made well. They are probably in the similar price rang as the Southport. I have heard that the Scout 280 is a little light so the ride in 3' seas may be a little bumpy. To make sure you are pleased with the boat that you buy, I recommend that you sea trial them to see how they perform for yourself! Good Luck!

If your spending that kind of $$$$$$$$ get the 29 foot FOUNTAIN. Fast, lots of room, takes the big water very well.

Do NOT get the Mercury motors. Get 4 stroke Suzuki

Ride them all then ride the Fountain. You'll know which one to get.

EdgeWater, don't waste your time ride a 26 or a 31 you will be please with the performance. Recently I was in Puerto Rico this boat survive the last wave storm we got down here. Try swells 16 to 22 feet with any of those boats and give me a honest opinion. Fuera de Aire Fishing Team
