What part of the country are you stationed in? This will help narrow the focus. Are there any rivers entering the Atlantic near you? Are you fishing from the boat, offshore, inshore???

dear seth,

thank yopu for your repley

Our ship 'anastasis' is stationed in monrovia port.
There are some rivers close by entering the Atlantic. the only thing i have to find out is how to get at the delta's and find out how safe these roads are.

I will manly do the fishing from shore while i dn't have a boat yet that i can use. I asume the fishing wil be called in shore from beaches and in river delta's

most looks like sand bottem.

More than likely you should be able to target tarpon, but the estuary systems may provide a variety of other fish as well, including several types of kingfish, springers, a form of garrick, great barracuda, king mackerel, and the cubera, a mangrove snapper that will eagerly accepts bait, lures or surface poppers.

Thanks Seth,

I will try to get to the estuary of the river to see if it is possible to fish there from shore side or that i need to hire a boat from a local fisherman. before I cann Wet my flies.

yesterday I was at a sand beach with my children where quite some big waves were crassing in to the beach. although the beach was partly protected by rocks. I saw only a few birds diving in the waves yust on the ocean side of the rocks.

what do you think is it worth trying to wet a fly there??

I would give to surf fishing a shot. The river mouth should be a good spot with live bait.

It is fishing not catching. You will have to pay your dues before you can figure things out. Try the out going tide.

He Seth,

Your right its fishing but having caught something once in a while (whale) would be nice as an encouragement. But don't be afraid I will continue.

Saw some big fish swimming around the ship last night 18lb min. at high water going low

Why don't you give it a shot off the boat if you can see fish swimming around?Try using a light coloured bait pattern like a sardine.Mostly white/silver with a little green on the back.Cast well in front of the fish and let it sit till the fish gets within a meter. Then give it a few short strips or twitches.Try to make sure your fly looks like its moving away from the fish not at it.That tends to scare them.I always tend to start with a clear intermidiate line until something makes me change.Seems to spook them less.
Hope that helps a little.

He longshot,

I was thinking of fishing from this old cruise ship i'm living on but its even higher the first open deck and casting is not realy possible due to all wireing. so thats why I'm trying to fish from the dock. thats only 20ft above the surves instate of 35ft.
I'am maily using a intermediate line wf9 but is not realy a hot waterline
tangles a lot but stilll most of the time I can shoot out all of its 90ft.

the bigger fish always swims 100ft off grrrrr.

but thanks for your tips.

he longshot,

what I did to the fish, I gave them to the UN gaurd thats gaurding our jetty.
I caught 1 each evening at the same spot next to the jetty. and to make the whole ship smell like fish at night from only one small fish isn't worth getting people angy. but atleast one person is happy and fed by the fish.
the lobsterfly I put a picture in the gallery. you can search for hin or lobster.
its a simple fly made of bucktail and chain beads and a hackle under body.

the place we are laying with the ship is quite industrial although the industy is bombed away. but the beaches are nice to sit and some even nice to swim and play for the childeren.

warm greetings hin

Cool lobster fly Hin!I should send you a couple of these to try. They work great on Steelhead up here.I'm sure they would do well in warm water also. They would defiantely stand up against sharp teeth a little better.
