What would be the best GPS, Depthfinder, for some inshore fishing, nothing too heavy duty...........Thanks!

The best is a tough call. If I was you, I would look at Garmin or Furuno.

I use a Lowrance 335DF unit on my inshore/nearshore charter boat which is a Mako22 center console. The unit (now has a newer model #) has GPS, chartplotter, and fishfinder all in one. It is a good, accurate and reliable unit for a compact installation. Initially I had some transducer issues but upon contacting Lowrance techs direct (online while on the phone) they soloved my problems and sent me new tranducers NO QUESTIONS ASKED! Lowrance tech support and service are great and for around $900.00 I got three units in one. I love mine and fish year round.

I just spent many hours researching and following up suggestions for the best I could afford for fishing the Davao Gulf where the water is very deep. I did not want both in one because I want the maximum screen resolution to show detail in deep water.

I eventually settled on a Lowrance GlobalMap 5200C GPS
and
a Furuno FCV-585 fish finder

i just bought me a fcv-585 furuno. but unable to set it up to collect data from the bottom up. like i want to setup the finder to only search from the bottom of the ocean to 30 meters and everything above not to show. does anyone know how to do this or where can i go to set this up.

On my Garmin you have to turn on the bottom lock feature and then there is a zone of coverage you can adjust to see from the bottom up to the depth from the bottom you want to show on the graph.

I own a Garmin 498 on my Nautic Star 2200 Bay. It works OK. I was really impressed with the new Raymarine stuff. It'll cost more but it surly looks nice. They have models almost as small as my Garmin and just like most manufacturers the bigger units cost a lot more. It just depends on how much you're willing to spend and how much screen you want.
