I am a 20 year old college student attending school in Gainesville, Fl and will be home for the summer in Tampa, Fl. With little experience in offshore fishing I am very eager to learn more about it. I am looking for a dackhand/mate position on an offshore boat. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can go about finding a job like this? Whether it be me out on the boat with the captain or even helping clean a boat. I just want to learn. Any help would be appreciated.

just go around the docks and baitshops and get your name out there. that is the best thing to do. once you build up some experience, make a resume and maybe get some business cards. this industry is almost 100% word of mouth advertising, your reputation is everything. alot of captains will be willing to take you under their wing and show you the ropes. just dont be afraid of getting disappointed and turned down, its part of the game
to give you an idea of the sort of stuff to put on your resume, go to inthebite.com and browse around there. and you can take a gander at my resume also:

and for anyone else who looks at my resume, I'm available for hire right now :thumb:

Well I thank you for the advice. I looked ver your resume and saw that you were on the "Absolutely" in March of 07, I'm guessing that was for the Bacardi Billfish Tournament. I was down there for spring break and talked to some of the guys on that boat. I was able to go out for a day and fish while I was there, our captain, Cody Holcomb, knew a few guys on the Absolutely. Good luck with the fishin' and tight lines.
