Hi! I'm new too- I live in San Diego. The surf fly-fishing is excellent all up and down the coast.

This may turn out to be a great resource, this forum, but due to lack of traffic I find myself not coming here much...may I suggest http://www.fliflicker.com/

The "M-Board" is a forum, a few members who post regularly. You'll probably find a lot of good info there.

PS:

halibut, corbina, various perch, sharks, etc. are reasonable to expect in your area.

Unfortunately I am on the east coast and can't give any advice.

The forum is a bit slow right now, but it's still in it's juvenile stages working out the bugs and adding new features. We now have a couple of members that check and post daily and hope to see more of this in the near future. The magazines the forum is under are great ones so I don't see any reason for this forum to flop, it will just take time.

Well I'll stick with it, I know the exerience of partaking in a new board when it takes off like wildfire. It's a good thing!

I'll be fishing beaches north of La Jolla tomorrow and I'll be sure to post a report regardless of the outcome.

Hi. I'm new to this forum too. I usually fish out of Long Beach CA along the breakwater by Queens Gate. I usually catch Bass, Rockfish and an occasional Barracuda or Halibut in that area. I finally just got another boat after being boatless for the last couple years. I'm planning to go out Labor Day weekend.

I lived in Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo and the fish I always went after was the corbina. They eat soft-shelled sand crabs and they’re very picky. I doubt you’d have much luck with a fly. I used 8# test spinning gear because you have to be able to feel them take the bait as they aren’t very aggressive feeders. Then once you have one on the hook, you have to allow the waves to bring them in or you’ll break off.

I'm new to the forum. Long time in So.Cal. Now in Pasadena. Like kayak and surf fishing, though no real expert. There are lots of people here who surf fish, corbina the big good one, also various croaker, esp yellowfin and the almost impossible to miss (meaning even I can catch them) surf perch. Some use flies for most of these. The real fly fishing expert who does guiding is Mike Allen in Orange County with whom I have fished in Baja from kayaks when he used flies. I think he would be happy to talk w/you about fly fishing from shore as well.

I also follow the southern california surf fishing board, "Surf Fishing in Southern California"

http://www.scsurffishing.com/

Lots of folks there use flies as well. Check it out.
I am always looking for buddies for week day fishing, either kayak (I'm getting a bit old and messed up to go through the surf and might need a bit of help getting the kayak back on the car at the beach) or surf. I'd love to go with someone and experiment with the flies since my wife bought me a wonderful 8wt rod and I haven't used it yet. I have done a good bit of trout fishing on flies but haven't yet thrown one into the salt.
