Does anyone have any insight as to the saltwater fly fishing in South Carolina? I know that they pretty much have everything we have in Florida except snook. I am assuming that it is pretty much 8wt. territory unless you are going after tarpon or cobia. My fiancee' and I thinking of moving there in the next couple years.

South Carolina has some great fly fishing opportunities. I am most familiar with the Hilton Head area, but I know that there is some fantastic fishing to the north around Charleston.
In college, I had the chance to run boats for a family based out of Hilton Head, and had fantastic fishing from land for tarpon, snook (yes, all the way up there) trout, redfish and flounder — all on fly. The key is finding outflows on the various golf course ponds dotting the island. For the shorebound duty, 6-8 wts. are fine.
If you do have access to boats or a fishing guide, this time of year offers great fishing for redfish, as well as tripletail, cobia and some monster jack crevalles, several species of shark and even large tarpon.
8 wts. will do you well for most of theses, although the larger fish (cobia, crevalles, sharks and tarpon) might require beefier tackle.
As to flies, anything brown and gold for redfish — spoon flies are always a favorite. Shrimp and crab imitations work well too, especially for the tripletail.
When targeting sharks, cobia or crevalle, large, bulky streamers in chartruese or yellow will make easy targets in the tannic-acid-stained water.
One word of caution: keep an eye out for thunderstorms... they can be brutal in the summer!
Good luck!
