Happy belated Father's Day! I'm new to the forum but felt the time was right to opine about the "special" at Bonefish on Fathers Day....I don't get it! But I was at a local restaurant several weeks ago here in Ocala, Fl that had marlin on the menu! I guess I'll play it safe and go to Burger King. On a happier note: I caught a respectable sailfish on May 30th a few miles off of Stock Island in Key West. The fish had a tag---first time I have ever caught a tagged fish. The fish had been tagged Jan 3rd off the West coast of Grenada---about a 1500+/-mile swim in just under 5 months....and he is still swimming!:) archotiner
Welcome to the forum and Happy belated FD to you as well. Marlin on the menu is :gr_bs:. Nice work on the sailfish. Let us know if we can assist with anything forum related. Cheers!

thats rather unnerving that they would carry marlin/spearfish on the menu, but not surprising. outback, carraba's, roy's, and bonefish are all owned by the same group of people. roy's is notorious for having marlin on the menu, so i wouldnt be a bit surprised to see it on the menu at their sister restaurants. it's depressing though, as I used to frequent that bonefish grille when i lived in ocala, I almost always enjoyed the dining experience there

You know, my wife and I went to the Bonefish Grill a couple of weeks ago. We wanted to try it out before having my birthday dinner there in July. Neither of us were very impressed with the meal. Our crabcakes had grit in them, sand I assume.. that or they dropped them on the floor. My trout was good, but a bit dry. My wife's shrimp dish had way too much garlic in it, and I absolutely love garlic.
The calamari was great though. Oh, the 1 hour wait sucked too.

new to the forum but was just curious as to why it would be "sad" and "unnerving" for any of those restaurants or any restaurant for that matter to be serving spearfish????? i mean it isn't endagered or anything. not trying to start an uproar or anything, just curious.

I don't get it either tampacajun! I mean, it's ok to run a fish to exhaustion with a hook in it's mouth and hope it survives upon relase but it's not ok to EAT IT???

ANY Billfish on a menu is "Tabo" to most Sportfisherman, even Swords and Not All fish are fished to "exhaustion" not sure where you got that from:confused:
also the term "spearfish" might be just a generic name for BroadBill Swordfish, which are allowed to be harvested commericaly and sold to restaurants, where Marlin and Sails are not.
also, we have a "Bonefish Grill" near us and the food is top-notch:thumb:

Sedano's down here in So. Fla frequently sells swordfish and blue marlin, but it's legal because it comes from the Pacific, where there are no such restrictions.

I didn't say ALL fish were fished to exhaustion but some certainly are. As for where I got that from, that would be from THIS forum. Check out the "what's fair in fishing" discussion: http://forums.sportfishingmag.com/showthread.php?p=374123#post374123
Just pointing out that it seems a little absurd to indulge in a sport that sometimes (not ALWAYS) results in the death of the fish due to carelessness (or "ego fishing"), yet getting up in arms when someone kills the fish on purpose to eat it.
