View Full Version : what about rain????
He boys,
What is your experience with fishing in the rain.
Next to that you will become wet and frustrated when you do not catch any thing.
But when the water gets a little murky, clouded or even deep brown like here.
Here now the rainy season started and I wonder if it is worth going out to fish.
Please tell me of you ideas, and catches.

If your boat is self bailing and you dont mind getting humid and wet, go for it. I fish in the rain with rain gear. It's different!
HE razorz,
if your boat isn't self bailing you will become also wett
I will continou most of my fishing from shore, jetty/ beach & may be some time from a dug out canoo (manuel bailing system)
but do you know if rains puts the fish down even further. ofcourse i have to try but what is your experience.
river fisherman always complain about the heavy rains.

Regards,
Beats watching television. I primarily billfish now and have caught many species in the rain; from black marlin, to blues, to sails; in several locations. When I use to fish the Gulf of Mexico primarily we'd have a spike or increase in the bite immediately before a storm as the barometric pressure dropped; then it would level off. We did not fish in lightening. With freshwater it was always nice to have a dry place on the front of a houseboat or under the roof of a boathouse to cast baits to catch bream, catfish, redhorse suckers, drum, carp or whatever came to the bait. I have a covered dock over the water now so as to be able to fish in all conditions..........except for that lightening;with that I'd rather be watching television; or even better napping on a hammock on the porch. Most fish feed fine in rainy weather; simply change lures or bait scents according to water clarity. Tight lines. Doc
he
after a few days of rain I started fishing in the evenings when it was dry.
And even now the waqter is murcy and brown of colour. I managed to caught some fish.
oke the where smal fish max 15 inc and of unknown species and quite small for a #9 rod but although good fun from a jetty standing almost 10 ft above the water
what also could have help was the down sizing of my flys from size 2/0 till 4.
so atleast I get some experience in rain season fishing. and will continiou who knows what more is swimming in port.

It looks like the rainy season is a even better season for fishing than the dry season.
Most of my time i spent casting from the jetty after dark. When the kids are in bed and the jetty is MT of other people who other wise could be striked in my casting. Oke I fish when it stopped raining becaus when it rains it realy pouring down from heaven.
succes are even better now every time at least 2 fish oke small but fish is fish.
so far a couple of unknown species but also a baby tarpon of 16 inc and a mellud of 2 ft.
even a friend who is a canoo fisherman with nets first told me that the rainy season was a bad time came back on this remark becaus he him self had some extreme catches
SO I can say start fishing in rainy season in the dry hours and catch some fish:thumb:
