How is this reel? Anyone with any experience with these? I am thinking of putting one on a 8 ft 9 wt Loomis CC. The reel is not a CL. Not sure if they even make them anymore.

Not so sure about the Backcountry series. I know most stuff by Tibor is top notch. I however, switched all of my fly reels to Abel as I like their finish better.

The BackCountry Wide is a great reel, and I've caught some nice fish on it, including some blackfin tunas, kingfish and tarpon up to about 40 pounds. My only concern would be that for a 9 weight, it might be a little small. You could, however, compensate for the diameter of the fly line by using 20-pound Power Pro or similar superline as backing.

I have two BC wide reels - great reels but the drag is not that strong. Excellent for reds, bones, smaller snook on a 7 or 8 wt. Not sure that I would use them on larger fish or on a 9 wt - limited backing, I think, plus drag not what I would want when I move up to a 9.

I love this reel I have it on my 6wt. Z-axis and its amazing. I have landed big bones, steelhead, and 30lb+ carp. Your gonna have to use gel spun if you want to put a 9wt. line on it though. Don't worry about the drag you have more then enough. I was able to stop a 12lb. summer run steelhead in its tracks with it and it handled the bones nicely. There is no bad choice when it comes to getting a Tibor.
