Hi there guys, i'm pretty new tothe sport of saltwater game fishing - i was out in the middle east last year and saw plenty and caught very little! I'm going back in february and am hoping to target tuna - dorado etc. I just wanted advice from the experts on what you guys consider to be the best flyline to leader system and by that i mean what is the best thing to put on the end of my flyline ie. should it be a braided leader or what? I have read conflicting reports..i know a lot of lines now come with pre factory made loops but a lot dont and the last thing i want when i go out there is to find when and if i hook into something it all goes SNAP! If you can even tell me where i can purchase ready made systems for adding to the end of my line then all the better. I am going to be using rods in between 10 -13wt so i guess i just need advice on something strong and where perhaps i can buy this ..sorry if this seems like a dumb question but as i said i am new to this end of the sport as i have been an atlantic salmon fisherman pretty much up to this and now i want to progress..many thanks guys..tight lines..

I've been using braided mono loops on the end of my flylines for quite a few years now without any problems. I have, however seen the store bought ones come apart so I make my own. 50 pound test braided mono will work for line sizes 7 to at least twelve. I use Cortland braided mono and the splicing needle that Cortland has. I always make a double tuck on the loop end by pulling the line on the loop end out and then tucking it in again about a quarter of an inch down further. I then tightly whip tying thread where the doubled line ends. I then leave a good six inches to tuck the fly line into and then whip the end of the braid. The whipped thread gets a coat of UV Knot Sense, and you are finished. It's really easier and quicker than it sounds.
