I am pretty new to saltwater flyfishing. I live in Hawaii and want to get into kayak fishing for tuna here. So any information on good places to go and what species are here would be awesome. Thanx

You may want to check out some books by Lefty Kreh, he is the "Godfather".
If you want local info check out some local fly shops or bait shops see what they are biting on, then tie or buy some imitations.
Good Luck and tight lines!!

Check out some local sources of info either fly shop or bait shop, if they are worth anything they will be happy to share where to go and what to use.
Check out some of Lefty Kreh's writings.
Good Luck!

I will see what the local fly shops have to say...
Do you have some titles of good books for this?

I have caught tuna in Hawaii but never very big ones. But, the times I have, we fished around different F.A.D.S. If you can find one within paddling distance, it should be a simple matter to fish a deceiver or a squid fly and start hooking them. I fished one many years ago off of Oahu that was good. We fished out of Waianae. The distance we traveled that morning to get to the FAD is too far for you to paddle, but we were not very far offshore when we got there, so maybe you could put in some place closer and paddle out? The boat we used was called the Live Bait. Their website is
www.live-bait.com. I would not be afraid to give them a call and ask. We were essentially fishing for the tuna for some baits to bridle for marlin, but what I do remember was being shocked when a 12-15 lb tuna would occasionally latch on. I enjoyed catching them. I caught them like that last May in Maui also. They are not "sashimi grade" fish. But they taste alright as sahimi to my untrained palate.
I have not had the opportunity to catch them on a fly rod yet, but I will not go on my annual vacation without a fly rod again. I'll get them next May!
Hope that helps.
