OK don't laugh - here is the question:
Can I take my double taper floating fly line and cut off the taper up to the heaviest part, and then tie the leader to it to convert it to a weight forward setup? I know it would be shorter but would it work? Lets hear the ideas!!

Of course you can. Just make sure you have a heavy butt of nylon leader to attach it to.

I used to do just that if I wanted to reduce the length/bulk of a DT line to get it to fit onto a small trout reel.

Also that's the way to go about making up your own SHeads but if you really want to convert your DT to a WF ( )I would recommend chopping off the rear taper and splicing it to the rear-end of the new WF.

Have fun.
