fly / spin

I am planning a trip to Ascension bay, or another flats spot, I can fly fish OK, but better with a spin cast. Has anyone had any luck on the flats with spin gear?
Also others in my group do not fly fish.
Other than ridicule from the flying elite, is there a down side?

i'm curious to see what technique you ended up choosing...
i have once a similar dilemma and i chose to go with th fly fishing.
