Had a friend Mike in town from TennessEEEE and he was looking to go play on the water for the day.

Blasted across to Clemente on a dead, greasy, flat ocean and arrived around the back corner about 7:30am.

Just before we rounded Pyramid we had a 5 foot mako jump about 6 feet out of the water and do a flip before landing it, very kewl to see!

Pulled up and started throwing and catching

Followed by a nicer grade fish

Then the doubles started

Fished the hardbaits and iron for the bigger fish and a few smaller models on the swimbaits. Best fish was 8lbs with a few 7+, 6+ and about 20 or so 4-6lbs, nice day on the larger grade basses!

I'm new to the area and was hoping for some fishing basics for Calicos. I have an 18' cuddy out of Oceanside. I mainly interested in decent locations and info on lures (like the ones you were using)

Try the area called the Bark Kelp. Well with your range on your boat. Use hammer swimbaits, live sardines, choves,...pretty much any plastic swimbait, just experiment with the colors, and technic. Also fish the jetties along the harbor.

Any kelp beds along the coast form San Diego to Santa Monica will have Cali's.

Enjoy it now, as the MLPA's will be here SOOOON!
