Ladies, just wondering what to do on a boat when nature calls if there is no restroom available? Especially if there are mixed gender persons on board? Any suggestions?

OK,
I've been hauling women and kids around on boats since rocks were created. Many ARE NOT INTERESTED in swimming when nature calls (#1 or #2) and a Sears port-a-potty is a bit expensive to buy just for a boat trip (although we had one in a houseboat for 21 years and it did just fine). The following works for kids, males, females, teens, and for #1 and/or #2.................

A. The makeshift bathroom for any vessel:

1. A plastic five gallon bucket serves as the container or toilet. Take one with you.
2. Toilet paper is OK but those baby wipes are a lot better.
3. Buy a plastic shower curtain (or 2) and it can be held up for privacy.
4. And for #2 one of those black garbage can liners can be used to
line the bucket. Or you can simply fill it partially full of water and
dump that over the side (which is more "green" - no plastic tossed in).

OR

B. One roll of duct tape (mace or pepper spray works also): Just wrap twice around the opposing sex's eyes,
hang your rear over the side, and by the time they are through pulling their hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes off you should be through. For B you might want a backup boat for the ride home...............

Cheers, Doc

I like plan B, haha, but we always did is bring a bucket, some camping toilet paper that is very dissolvable, and a blanket. That way the person could sit there, covered up and look like they are just cold or something. It also helps if the other folks on board don't look!

Thanks to both of you for these solutions!

I know this thread started months ago, but I have another few suggestions besides the standard bucket and the drop-trou/over-the-side methods.
When I'm fishing with males aboard, most are very polite about looking away, so I don't find the need for a blanket or cover. Putting a center console between me/them is nice, if possible. Also, many boats feature a swim platform that is very conducive to these delicate operations. Just make sure the captain puts the boat in neutral before you climb over the transom.
The other option is to use one of several products designed for females such as The Whiz. These funnel-shaped objects allow us (yes, I'm a female Chris) to urinate standing up. Now this may startle some of the males you're with, so you might want to tell them about it before you proceed. The product works -- though I have to tell you, the standing part can be tricky. You'll use muscles you're not used to using.
Ok, ENOUGH of that. LOL!!! Good luck!

Thanks for the info Chris. I looked for the product you mentioned on-line and there appear to be several of this type of gadget...in fact, there are actually some you-tube videos demonstrating the products, if you want to watch that sort of thing (I didn't).

Actually a plain toilet seat will fit the rim of a 5 gallon bucket. Use biodegradable tp, & ur set. Another option is hang it over the transom & use the saltwater washdown hose freely. This will work for #1 & #2 quite well, just be sure to tell the rest of the crew to keep looking forward. I have a porcelain head (better than my toilet at home) w/a 6 gallon holding tank, but it's never been used. Only there for the rare women that fish on my CC boat. Not really worth paying for the option on a CC boat.

When someone has given this a go, please let me know. Women can now go over the transom!

Another option for a comfy seat is a swim noodle. Use a bread knife to cut it the circumference of the bucket, then slice a slit the length of the noodle to slide over the rim. Ahhhhhh.....

I used to have a 1 gallon pail for my guest that said "Ladies Room" until one day a lady said to me....that's just disgusting.

The most interesting thing I have seen was another lady who when asked what to do simply told me not to worry, she had been fishing for over 40 years and this was not a problem. Later in the day she asked me to excuse her for a minute and reached into her pocket and pulled out a 1 gallon zip lock bag, did her business, poured it out rinsed and folded and put back into her pocket

I think the bucket is less disgusting than the ziploc bag!

At least the bucket is reusable (better for the environment at least) :booty:

If there were such a funny situation like that, maybe I just go to the restroom and my friend will stay outside to watch out :bash:

Warren - like you we've hauled teenage girls, women and kids on our boats too many times to count. The 5-gal bucket with kitty litter and a roll Scott tp on a coat hanger in the forward cabin affords privacy as well. I've had a few women trying to use the shewee, tho not really successfully and end up on the bucket. Never do it on the swim ladder, you never know what you might find under the platform!:omg:

That was one thing that has never crossed my mind.. That was
really one serious problem..

Thanks for the tips anyways.

Have y'all seen this "stocking stuffer" that's made the most popular images list on yahoo for over a week now?

I have been just hanging over the side of the boat for years. If there a man besides my husband on the boat, I just ask him to look the other way. If you are very modest and use a bucket, think of putting on that poncho we all carry on the boat - it will be like your own private bathroom in the middle of the boat.

I have done many seminars and have been asked this numerous times and everyone really likes the poncho idea.

I have to ask...

What do you do when "Mother" nature calls?

My girls use the rear livewell. When they're done, they hit the flush button (aka Fill button). No TP. They have to shake it dry. :rotflmao:
