Yesterday (15 Jan) the Impetuous, a 55ft Hatteras with Capt. Josh Howe on the bridge fished the banks. Raised six sails, four whites and one blue marlin. Released two sails and one white marlin. Josh says it's the off season - but that's not been proved so this year - fishing remains good.


Guarimba, a 45ft Chris Craft with Capt. Wilmer Alvarado had a Grand Slam over the weekend.

Gigi, a 35ft Bertram, had two big Blues (158kg), but lost both.

No reports from the Salitre, a 38ft Bertram

A correction the Impetuous raised 6 sailfish, 4 white marlin, 1 blue marlin and managed to release 1 blue marlin, 1 white marlin, and two sails.

I am not sure what you are asking. There should be tuna around and if the water holds probably some marlin. Expect to see some sails and blues, and maybe even some whites Feel free to contact me

Go to SEARCH and plug in Venezuela and Mango ************************ and you will find about all you can about the place. It's got a half dozen boats out front, is secure, folks who use it like it, and you will be very safe. I stay across the slough in a boat. Catch reports are posted in a few places; but they only put in days they have caught fish and the reports are very limited.

I've fished February there several times including 2005 and 2007. Some days are fine; some are a bust; and some days you get some blues and sails, the infrequent white; maximized by using the right boat. Some captains are an utter waste of money; others you would be happy to fish with three months straight without a break.

Sometimes way too many YFT in. E-mail if you want more information and who to call to price out the trip. I do advise 5 days or more and billfishing with no more than one other person.

Hi Perlagic,
Have fun at Mango in February. If you are fishing thre you have maximized your ability by choosing boats who have the most experienced captains and crews for La Guaira. Let us know how you do? I'll be getting ready for Cabo so I won't be around. Hope you get plenty of blues. Swords have been sort of light down their recently so I would not waste too much time looking for one. Best bet is blues, followed by sails; and there might be some huge YFT in. If this is your first trip carry plenty of sunscreen, buy travel insurance in case you get ill (Docs down there want the money up front), the food is fine, most folks do not speak English, I have found that $35 tips to each crew (2 normally) and the Captain are sufficient, and you might see two Killer Whales that have been around this year.
