I would like to have any knowledge about catching a halibut on a fly.
thanks,
roger
Roger,
Halibut are a deep water fish, so catching one on a fly would be a real trick. They usually are hooked at considerable depth.
I will however move this thread into the fly fishing section and maybe another member has some secret that I do not know about for angling halibut on fly.

perhaps best op for this is alaska in august when halibut WILL come in very shallow, to hang out just off creek mouths into which pink salmon are crowding, presumably to pick off the weak ones... they may be in water just 15 to 30 feet deep (keeping in mind that tidal variation may be more than 15 feet...). some have been taken on fly here.... and, btw, halibut will definitely swim up toward the surface the feed at times.... good luck!

If you are fishing for Halibut in southern California clousers on a 300gr integrated sink tip line are pretty effective.Olive and white and chart.and white seem to be the best colors. From a size 4-2/0,smaller flies mean you can entertain yourself with the surf perch as well.Just look for the same troughs and depressions the other species are hanging in.
