I am looking to purchase my husband a new fishing rod and reel. I wanted to know what the best bands are out there. He really likes the st. croix rods, but I can not ask him about any others for I want it to be a suprise.
He fishes salt water only. Primarily off docks and rocks, but occasionally he fishes off our local bridge.
Thank you for your assistance.

I do know that he wants a casting rod. He fishes salt water only. Primarily off docks and rocks, but occasionally he fishes off our local bridge.

Let me first ask, what is your budget is for this gift? This will help a great deal to narrow down or broaden the options. There are so many fine manufacturers out there and some can be quite expensive.

I am willing to spend about $500 for the whole thing. If I have to go a little over than I understand, if I go cheaper than I will be estatic! Thank you.
Well, I have tried to put together something within his brand choice and your price range. Since he likes the St. Croix rods, I would go with the St. Croix Tidemaster inshore casting rod. The model number is TIC66MHF and it runs about 139. Another option option is the St. Croix Legend inshore rod, but it runs about 300. For reels, I would say go with the Shimano Calcutta TE700 for about 390. If you really wanted to do something over the top, I would say go with the Alutecnos Gorillas 20. However this reel goes for around 600 and that by itself is outside your stated budget. These are just a few ideas. There are so many nice toys out there. It also depends on where you will be shopping or buying the rod/reel combo.
