I am a junior in high school and it is about time to purchase my class ring. I don't think i will really wear one so i talked it over with my parents and they are going to let me get somehing else to comemorate the experience.
I am thinking about getting a nice pair of offshore aluminum pliers and getting them engraved. Does anybody have any suggestions on a nice pair, maybe your favorite. any help or sugestions would be appreciated.

Accurate makes nice pliers. You may also want to check out Alutecnos. They make a very nice brushed aluminum piece. I do have to say, they are expensive, but for something to engrave and build memories with they are outstanding. Pliers (http://www.tackledirect.com/alutecnos-mako-pliers1.html)

My 2 cents:

Not aluminum, but the Van Staal titanium pliers are hands down the best pliers I have owned, borrowed, envied, etc....
Never have to worry about them being "frozen" and I have never had to lubricate them.
Cutters on side are also phenomenal.
Pricey, but well worth it.

Van Staal ftw, this company makes some of the finest equipment on the market. I agree, you are going to think about that price, but the gear will last a lifetime. The 6 inch pliers are the ticket from VS.

I am about to get marrried - you think I could pull this same plan off in lieu of a weddin' ring?? What if I promise the wife to wear my fishing pliers everywhere I go - right on my belt for everyone to see?

mafia - lemme know which ones you end up getting!

Van Staal are the best ones out there, I have a pair. Problem is, I have been known to loose pliers, even with lanyards so I don't take them fishing with me...lol. I only use them when working at home on making leaders and such. Ofcourse, I could use a pair of calcuttas for that. But, the point is, I have a pair, and I love them, I am just afraid to take them on the boat with me, I mean, I know Davy Jones would love a pair and something tells me, that is where my pliers would end up.

First of all, I've got to say it's great to see a young fellow who clearly has his head screwed on right! I agree with those who have talked about Van Staals. I've been using a pair for 10 years and the side cutter still clips braid cleanly. Outstanding tool. If possible, you ought to consider pressing the folks for these as a lasting alternative to a ring. Just don't forget to always have the lanyard firmly attached. Good Luck!!!
