Hi, I am kinda new at fishing but I was wondering what a good spinning reel would be fore bottomfishing. I recently purchased a Stradic 4000 for snook and various other inshore fish but I feel as though that reel isn't quite big enough for offshore. I was looking at the Shimano Baitrunners 3500-6500 and they looked pretty reasonable. I also need a good rod to go with it.

Thanks

What species are you specifically/generally targeting? This will help determine the type of reel that will best meet your needs.

Most likely I will be targeting mutton, but I am new at fishing so I don't know what kind of fish are down there. So I would like to have a reel that could bring in a variety of different bottom fish.

(Sorry I am a total newbie at fishing) :(

Actually, I decided not to get another rod for bottom fishing, But I still want a spinner combo for offshore. Any ideas on what I should get. Something that I can use to catch king and other things. (Still think the baitrunner would be a good choice)

Thanks

What kind of price range are we talking about?
Are you referring to the Shimano baitrunner? You might consider the Shimano Stella series in either the 10000 or 20000 models. This will give you better line capacity. Finnor makes some nice reals as well. The offshore series they manufacture is a terrific choice for kings or other moderate sized speedsters and bigger bottom dwellers. You can spool mono or braid on them and they have tremendous line capacity. Let me know what you decide.

I got about $250 to spend. I think I'm gonna pick up a baitrunner, most likely the 4500. Any suggestions for a rod I can get for it.

Thanks

If $250 is your total budget, I would recommend the Shimano trevala rod or the G Loomis GL live bait stick.
