Hello,
Was given a Cabela's Saltwater Combo kit for Father's Day.
I am looking to purchase a Saltwater Fly-tying kit. Would like some recommendations on them and also a DVD maybe?
Thanks to all that reply
Hi Swiper, welcome to the board. I am not a fly tier myself, but since no one else has gotten back to you I thought I would give it a stab. Here are a few kits, or gear your would need, that look pretty good.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up going with a MELTZ beginner pack. Already made my first saltwater fly (Popper). Great pass time.

hey it's good to see some (fairly) recent posts in here ...
Kit's are a good way to get started for a few $'s. The downside is that they tend to come with an import vice with soft jaws and tools you'll probably want to up grade fairly soon, and materials are generalized so you get some stuff you don't need and not enough of the stuff you do. Still it's a good option if your budget is limited or you just want to try it. And it sounds like Swiper is having a ball with his.
Another option is to get some help from a fly shop to put together a "kit" of your own with most of the money going towards a decent vise, and good tools with enough material to tie some basic patterns for $150-200 or more depending on the vise you buy.
VISES: in the $60-100ish range (Griffin 2A, Danvise, some entry Anvils, the Regal INEX are some options in this range)
TOOLS: about $40:
bobbin with ceramic tube (or tip) from Umpqua, Tiemco, Dr Slick, Griffin etc, Dr Slick or Anvil scissors, cheap bodkin, cheap hackle pliers ("English style" or plastic push button), Matterrelli Whip Finisher (or "Matterrelli Style" import). Dr Slick makes a decent toolkit that includes this stuff.
Materials: about $25-30:
assorted sizes of Mustad 3407D or 34007 25 packs, a couple of Bucktails, some thread, pearl Krystal Flash, white chenille, some lead eyes, head cement etc. to keep you busy with simple patterns like Clousers, BT Deceivers, Bendbacks, Glass Minnows etc.
BTW, there's a decent book by Sanchez "Beginning Saltwater Fly Tying" (or something close to that) that you may want to check out at the library to see if it has the patterns want, but I know it has the basics.
good luck,
