Early and late in day are the times to get on redfish in Northern Sarasota Bay. Topwater plugs (Mirr-O-Lure's Mirro-Mullet) will get lots of shots from reds and trout early in the day. Topwater flies, such as Heidi's Whitey, are great for those throwing the long rod. As the morning progresses, switching to weighted weedless jerkbaits (DOA CAL shadtails) will keep the bite going.

For those wanting to take a walk, fly casting the beaches for snook is as good as it gets. Small, white baitfish imitating flies will score beach-going linesiders. Most of the fish will be the smaller males up to 27 inches, but the possibility of scoring a trophy snook is very real. They will be females so whip them quickly, handle them gently, and keep them in the water as much as possible.
