I know that a 20-27' boat is not really an "offshore" boat as it is a "near shore" boat, but I am wondering if anyone fishes boats in this class that are of a dual console layout. The Grady White Tournament Series, Boston Whaler Ventura series, or the like. How fishable are these boats? I am thinking about getting one for it's practical layout and putting a hard top (like you'd find on a walkabout) on it with rocket launchers off the backside. Any thoughts comments? I'd really like to hear from those who own these types of boats rather than a bunch of speculation.

NI had a 19 ft bayliner Capri that fit the model boat you are talking about but a bit shorter. boat was a great inshore boat and had a lot of comfort for the wife that she appreciated but was not an ideal fishing machine. Also the degree of dead rise kept it from staying steady in slight chop. This was a fun thing when pulling a tube on the river but not good when heading out to the near shore reefs.
We did take it out about 20 miles at its furthest but almost everyone on board got sick so we kept to the reefs up to 10 mi out.
I had the soft top and just one rod holder that I mounted on the transom as an add on. No livewell, no salt water washdown (or freshwater), and while all the seating around the sides was nice for the family, it was hard to clean and not a great fishing layout.
That was my first ever boat and I did learn a lot from it and have fun and catch fish.
I just got a 25ft Mako walkabout, and am loving it. Would have prefered a CC but wife wanted the cabin as a compromise. pics of the new (to me) boat at www.sharkfighter.com/boat
