Very Busy Week!!!
Well anglers this past week was busy for us at the Silver Side Lodges and Bayou Charters.
Even with the up and down winds, high and low tides the fishing has been great. Now is getting to the time when the trout are hitting the bottom and the reds are getting so shallow that their backs are out of the water.
Capt's Shane, Joe, Harvey and I have been catching trout in the areas of Point Finenne and Bay Jack. The trout are on the bottom but sometimes they will come to the top chasing the few shrimp left near the surface. The hot bait right now is the Saltwater Assassin Glo Curltails and the Blurp Electric Chicken. All are presented on 3/8oz jigheads.
For the redfish, they are on Fire!!! Yesterday we had the crew in from Castrol Oil -- Cleveland, OH. My guys wanted HUGE REDFISH. We ran out to Drum Bay and hit them good. We fished with gold spoons but they would just follow them, unlike the day before when they were chasing them down. I noticed this so we switched to live shrimp under a cork and we started pulling them in to the Triton. Our first fish was just under 42lbs!!!!! We caught and released another nine that were between 22.5lbs to 31 lbs. All of these fish were caught on 8lb power pro and live shrimp. Fishing this way with light tackle is not only a challenge but a thrill to see these big fish moving over less than a foot of water with their backs out!!
After we finished catching these monsters we moved to the ponds. The tide was very low so we had to troll in very quitely to the honey hole. We pulled up and it was ON!!!
We caught and released 44 more reds on spoons and live shrimp. We finished the day with 54 reds!!
Capt. Shane and Capt Joe had Gayle Bailey and his crew for their last
day of fishing and sleeping at the Silver Side Lodge. They had their limits of Reds by 8:00am and caught and released twenty or more before heading to another spot to catch a few trout for the box. Gayle and his crew left catching over 60 redfish.
Capt. George Ricks helped me out with the Castrol guys yesterday catching 75 trout on Exude glo curltails under a cork. These guys were shipping all of the fish they caught back to Ohio for a company fish fry next week!!!
We have cancelled our trips for the next two days due to weather but will be back at it next week.
