I have a Pathfinder 2300 DV OFFSHORE. I fish the ocean and the great lakes. Bought the boat used and love it. Anyway, the anchor has at least 10' of chain on it, maybe more. Seems like too much. Have to drag it over the edge of the boat to get the anchor in. Never actually measured it. What is the minimum amount of chain to have on an anchor to make it effective ?

a good rule of thumb is chain the lenght of your boat, thats what sets the anchor, not the size. I have a 23 wa w/23' chain and a fortress anchore that weights in at 4 lbs and I hook up first time 99% of the time w/ 3-4 ratio. I set anchore in 135' of water with as little as 300' of rode ( 1' seas )longer if seas are rougher though
