I just received this email from Mike Bondurant, of the Bertram Hatteras Shootout committee. The event organizers will be pushing the Shootout back to 2010... Here is the note he sent.

Friends of the Shootout,

It is with regret that we have to announce the postponement (not cancelation) of

Shootout XXX until May 2010. A very difficult economy has weighed heavily on us all and after careful consideration; the tournament’s committee has decided that to postpone the event one year, is in the best interest of all.

The current economic climate has been difficult for all associated with the event including the manufactures, dealers, venders, sponsors, participants and the committee itself. Historically speaking, no one person or industry has been immune to these hardships, the worst since the 1930’s.

The Bertram Hatteras Shootout has long been considered a first class event. Throughout thirty years, the tournament has been an innovator for the sport of Big Game Fishing, tournament operations, high dollar prizes and great entertainment. In order to maintain that well deserved distinction, we plan to review the event and work with our main tournament sponsors to deliver a Shootout XXX worth the recognition of a commemorative milestone!

As an aside, Kaye Pearson, a long standing participant of the event and current Tournament Director has been battling cancer for the last several months. Not withstanding his commitment to treatment, Kaye’s desire for the Shootout has been to provide the best and he has been involved in the process throughout. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

We will update the website www.shootoutbahamas.com <http://www.shootoutbahamas.com/> with a 2010 date as soon as possible. Looking forward to 2010 & tight lines!

Sincerely,
Mike Bondurant, on behalf of the Shootout Committee
