Lafitte Weekend Report:
Hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter with their families. We had 6 boats out Friday and Saturday and I made sure not to book any trips on Sunday to allow our guides to spend time with their families before they start working everyday. Given the conditions that we had all weekend with the blowing, shifting winds, all of our customers managed to catch very respectable catches thanks to our hard working guides.
Friday morning Capt. Barry, Capt. Jason, and Capt. Mike had 3 different crews out. Capt. Barry and Capt. Jason headed to one area where the fish were left biting on Thursday, and Capt. Mike headed south in search of trout. When Capt. Barry and Jason arrived at their fishing area, they found crystal clear water, lots of bait fish, and lots of redfish that wouldn't bite. They tried to wait them out, but by 9 am, and no fish in the box, they had to change the game plan with the wind steadily increasing. They both made a 25 minute jump to the south. When they arrived to their destination, they found birds working, and it was almost instant pandamonium as soon as the corks hit the water. Working the protected side of the bay, they were slinging trout over the side left and right. Both groups pounded the trout as fast as they could, and then the customers from Oklahoma decided they needed something to stretch the line a little harder. With over 40 trout in the box, Barry jumped towards the shoreline and started pitching spinner baits. It wasn't long before some monsters redfish decided it was dinner time, and in no time they had over 10 big reds in the box. Capt. Jason was not far behind as he too caught over 10 reds, and a few nice drum. Capt. Mike was working an area not far from them, and he ended the day with over 35 trout, plenty reds, and drum as well.
Saturday, We had Capt. Barry, and Capt. Jason out again, and this time we had Capt. Mike Daigle working a crew that has requested him for the 3rd straight time. They all headed south to the area that they were working the morning before. With the wind switching directions, they just headed to the other side of the bay where the cleanest water was and started catching fish all morning. All 3 boats ended up with ice chests full of trout, and several more reds. In all, what a great weekend. I was in Mississippi finishing up a project on my farm, and was very thankful all of Capt. could fill in for me while I was out. So thanks guys, and thanks to all of our customers that came in town to spend time with their families, and spending a great day fishing with us. We appreciate it. We have several boats out all week, so check back for updates, as we will be hunting down the fish.
All fish this weekend were caught on H&H Glow Beetles, or Clear with the chartreuse tail under a cork, and H&H cochahoes on a gold spinner.
Capt. Barry has several pics from this weekends action, when he emails them to me, I will post them. You can also view many other pics that don't get posted on our site.
As Always, Thanks!
Capt. EJ
