They ran the carbon footprint on the stuff, and they have found that the carbon emissions from processing the ethanol to a state usable by our vehicles is more of a pollutant than running our cars on gasoline.

Also, the ethanol ruins motors only if the motors have been run previously with gasoline. If you are making the switch, you need to be sure to clean your lines and carburetor very well.

Either way, it won't be used so significantly in the near future so it won't be a problem.
