Where can you buy Speckled Trout Filets in the New Orleans area???

I was born and raised in the Louisiana marshes spending almost every weekend and summer at our fishing camp in Pointe A La Hache. Ever since katrina the camp was wiped out and I haven't been fishing since. My father moved to florida and neither of us have had Fried Speckled Trout since.

I am going down to visit him this weekend for a belated father's day and wanted to surprise him with about a dozen speckled trout filets so we could fry em up like old times when the camp was around but I find it impossible to find speckled trout.

Is it not something normally carried in stores? I noticed you can't even order it in restaurants as they all have salmon, tilapia, and redfish but never speckled trout.

Is there anywhere I can get some filets or even whole and I'll filet em myself? I'm going down there Thursday and willing to drive from New Orleans to Slidell to Covington to wherever I need to go that's close enough to get em.

any of the local fish markets should have speck fillets. i know several local fisherman that take 300 to 400 lbs of specks to the markets each week. you may have to drive about twenty miles south of new orleans to hopedale to get them but they are definatly there.
