Recently had a business trip to Japan and included a couple days of fishing on a small volcanic island (Shikinejima) about 160km away from Tokyo. Caught several small fish, but had one good one. Picture shown below - I need help identifying it - any of you international fishing experts able to tell what kind of fish it is?

I normally fish the Outer Banks and Florida, USA. It looked like nothing from there. Thanks.

I am not absolutely certain, but it looks like a long nose emperor fish.

I am sorry I don't have the answer to your question. But I am writing this note because I am going to Shikinejima next week.

I am a beginner fisher and am trying to figure out what kind of fishing gear to bring with me.

Did you catch that fish from a boat? or from the shore? What kind of lure did you use?

Thanks so much! (Your pictures are inspiring!)

I am not absolutely certain, but it looks like a long nose emperor fish.

The snout is too short for a long-nose emperor, but it's most certainly a fellow member of the Lethrinidae family.

The most likely candidate is the Spangled Emperor, Lethrinus nebulosus.
