2009 has had great fishing in Ucluelet!

During May and June we were bringing in 10-30 pound Chinook salmon (Kings), and by July and August we were catching some in the 45 pound range. While choosier eaters than other types of salmon, we had luck trolling for Chinook using spoons and plugs. The coolers definitely stayed full this summer!

Coho salmon (Silvers) were everywhere, and they bit anything! There were many times we couldn't hardly troll for a full minute without a bite! The Coho had a lot of energy, and the kids loved them. They're not too difficult to reel in, but they often jumped out of the water or did tail walks for us! Coho have been biting through September, as they stay around longer than many of the larger Chinook.

Halibut were definitely biting, although not as well as previous years. We still brought in our limit most days, and the August limit change to 2 halibut per day helped reduce our travel time for bringing in the total carry limit.

Wind didn't keep us off the water many days this year, as nature does have the power to do. We were able to fish offshore almost every day in June, July, and August!
