I just bought a boat that has a honda 225 motor. I don't have the money to invest in a smaller kicker motor right now and was wondering if there is an inexpensive way to achieve a slower trolling speed. any ideas?

Please...
NEVER say boat and inexpensive in the same sentence! You might check Teleflex electronic controls. They may have a trolling mode function that will work with Honda outboards. Otherwise, you'll just have to bump it in and out of gear.

We commonly use sea anchors to slow the trolling speed. Sometimes one is sufficient, sometimes use two depending on boat idle speed, wind/current, and sea anchor size. On kind is the Beefy Bag at www.amishoutfitters.com.

Check out Cabelas.com for Minn Kota Riptide engine mounted electric motors
up to 200lbs thrust for under 1500.00
complete. They are excellent
sea anchors, and if you want a REALLY cheap way to go, use a five gallon bucket or you can also get large plastic buckets that hold up to 10 gallons, the bigger the bucket the slower you go, also if you need an excuse for the wife to buy the kicker, with gas prices today the kicker may just be cheaper than slowing the big motor down!
