I have been running Johnson's for years, the last being a V8 250 carb that served me well for the gas-oil hog it was. I now run a 2001 Evinrude 250 ficht RAM on a Seaswirl 26 that's entering its avg.hour third season. The mechanic recommended not putting plugs in before we de-winterized her in April. Recently I changed the plugs to a standard Autolite, not platinums. The old ones were toast. This change seem to correct the rough run-stalling but she continues to sputter and/or skip at low idle cruises (2300 RPMs). Some say run de-carb through the fuel and upgrade to the platinum type plugs. Other than this recent issue, the moter has been an awesome performer. Please advise as to how I should correct this "rough run" at low idle. Suggestions much appreciated.. REMEDY

I'm checking with the chief engineers at Bombardier and will get back to you. Sorry for the delay.

My 250 HPDI runs very rough at idle and trolling speeds. I hate it. But it does start every time so it's not all bad.

Switch back to the recommended plugs. Also check with your dealer to see if a updated software map is available for the engine.

I also have a 26 Seaswirl and want to purchase a 2001 Evinrude 250 DFI. Does anyone know of a dealer that has one in stock? The dealers all say that this is an excellent engine and that it gives the 4 stroke engines competition but I want to here from the owners. engines perform

I was told that the gap opening on the plugs that are installed in evinrude ficht motors have to be rotated to a certain position. I think it was to the incoming fuel in the cylinder. It might be that you just have to bring it in to the dealer so that he can do this adjustment. I had the same problem when I decided to change out the spark plugs myself. Hope this helps.

Here's ur answer when u put new plugs u have forge them mark where the gap is with a marker make sure when u put them back in that the mark u made is facing the injector this will correct ur problem n minimize carbon built up in the cylinders, i do my 01 250 never had a problem, also make sure u decarbonize ur motor every 100 hrs it cost about 200.00 dollars but well worth it. plus these ficht motors we design to run hard, i have a 2003 21 cc polar i top out at 54 mph i love my motor. hope this helps...
