Rodrigues, a small island close to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, is probably most renowned for jigging for Dogtooth Tuna and fishing poppers for GIANT – and forgive the tautology – Giant Trevallies. However a German member of our Club and his friend, Stephan Kreupl, recently targeted the Marlin. Unfortunately their arrival corresponded with the approach of a cyclone!

Um…with building seas they managed to get out on their second day and had already released a 300lb Blue when a ‘return to base’ warning came over the radio. But their return was delayed by another hook-up. This one was ‘slightly’ larger! Fishing 80lb stand-up gear Stephan managed to beat a fish of 1148lbs – a potential IGFA line class record.

If you’re interested there’s a report and some photographs on this url - http://www.bluewaterfishing.eu. (Apologies to our ‘Stateside cousins you have to click on the Union flag to get the report in English. But then if you’re at sea it is of course referred to as the Union Jack.)

At the beginning I mentioned the Dogtooth Tuna and GTs for which Rodrigues is renowned. If that’s of interest there’re various reports and photographs on this thread - http://www.caranx.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2300 – and some photographs on this one - http://www.caranx.net/forums/index.p...pic=1279&st=60 – from page 4 onwards.
